Our mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions....

Busy Day.

My last day of  "underemployment" and I made good use of it. Drove to the folks house and my Mom and I pinned 3 of my quilt tops at her church.

This evening I worked on cutting fabric and filling the fabric cupboard for the sewingroom in the dollhouse.  I think that it turned out well.  The pieces are all cut to the size of one yard in miniature!
It was a good last day off.

Changes

Well, a couple of days ago our daughter left to work at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.  I have thrown myself in reorganizing/cleaning my sewing room.  What a mess!  This is my 2nd day working on it.  I had a SHELF of blue jean pieces from old jeans of the kids and decided it was time to cut it up or get rid of them.  This was my starting pile.
This is my ending pile for the day.

Rainy, wet week of camping!

Stayed for 6 days at Bearhead Lake State Park by Ely, MN and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.  It rained for all but one day of the week! Here was our campsite. The conversation of the week was figuring out wether or not it was raining, drizzling, or misting....
Wild lupine at its peak growing in the ditches.

Spent about 4 hours one wet day at the International Wolf Center which was fascinating.  There were 2 wolves that you could watch in their 1 1/2 acre natural habitat.  Many speakers, movies and informational displays to take in also.

Also visited the Soudan Underground Mine State Park.

Did some yo-yos, cross stitch, reading.  Our one sunny day Micaela went kayaking on Bearhead Lake.  We saw loons, deer, and a bald eagle.  She saw fish jumping in the lake.

As we packed up to leave, Micaela made a fairy house to leave at our campsite.

2011 MN Quilt Show-St Paul RiverCenter

Today my friend Lois and my daughter Micaela (her first time) went to the MN quilt show.  As usual, there were so many things to be seen and the quilts were outstanding!  Here are a couple of my favorites.

Here are a couple of photos of the dollhouse with the lights turned on.

Aren't the lights just fabulous?!

Underemployed but productive, Tuesday

No paid work today but 8 hours working hard on the dollhouse has paid off!  All 5 rooms are ceiling and wallpapered!  I found the paper for the kitchen at Archivers and the dark green in the 3rd floor at Archivers to go with the print green paper I already had!
Pete was near all day too.
All papered up!

My electrician, Micaela is installing 4 ceiling lights and a fireplace insert as I blog!!
How exciting is this!  Plus it has been raining for the last 2 hours or so-
 a lovely Tuesday afterall.

Monday Update

Lots of time has past and a lot has been accomplished.  Micaela and I finished the fence this weekend!!! Yeah!  Now we can do some camping.  Half of the fence that was broken has now been repaired and rebuilt and the 2nd half we will do this fall.
With the electricity in the house (thanks to Micaela) it was now time for me to get busy.  I flipped the house over and applied ceiling paper to all of the rooms.
Pete of course, was near as always.

Then I began to paper the rooms.

Master bedroom (in Mary Engelbreit paper with a border!), childs room with star paper, and the livingroom with a lovely, colonial print.  That is all so far...

If you look at the blog of 3/29/11 you will see a photo of the kitchen of the "someday" dollhouse.  Finally have all of the electrical pieces purchased and Micaela is going to do the wiring!!  Here is a photo of the entire backside of the unfinished house.
The plan is as follows: 3rd floor sewing/craft/storage room, 2nd floor master bedroom and childs room, 1st floor livingroom and kitchen.  I am going to "electrify" the fireplace so we put it in place to see where the wiring should go.

Oh, this wallpaper will be replaced by a more appropriate "period" wallpaper that I just purchased!  All of the furniture in this room is going to be handmade.
I also did some sewing tonight on the 2nd camping quilt.

And Sunday.

Here is yesterdays photo of the fence progress.
And todays progress on the fence.

As you can see the neighbor put a roof on his shed today also.
It sure makes a difference with that fence up, doesn't it.

Busy Saturday

Started the day with the Edina Art Fair with Micaela.  Last year it was raining the entire time.  This year it was so hot and sunny we thought we were going to pass out!  Just went before work for Micaela this morning.  About 2 1/2 hours of looking at lovely things... Michael and I then fixed the dryer vent which had come loose and was not venting to outside.  Michael sprayed the mugo pine bushes and the grape vine for insects and then we worked on the fence.  We accomplished re-assembling 2 more fence sections.  Too tired to take photos but will get one tomorrow.

Friday

Just a lack of motivation tonight.  Nothing accomplished.  Even Pete is unmotivated.

Its been a while....

Memorial weekend was so busy!  Moved our daughter back home temporarily.  She is sharing the studio space with me and it is working out fine.  We actually got 2 sections of the fence back up already!
It takes Michael and I working together 2 hours to do one 8 foot section of fence.
My "bad" news is that my mugo pine eating worms are back for the 4th year or so in a row!   They can (and have) destroyed 2 of my 4 bushes in previous years....Here is a nasty photo of them.  Their heads are the black "dot" you see in the middle of the photo....time to spray them...

Also had a birthday gathering and an evening fire out on our deck on one of the cooler evenings.  I have done some more sewing on the 2nd camping quilt also oh, and did a finish on that little basket I was working on but don't like it so will redo again.

Today was a non-work day.  I worked in the yard for 4 hours this morning.  Did some weeding, planting, trimming shrubs and laying down new bark.  Got the gutter cleaned out too.  Then I got another load of bark, grocery shopped and cleaned the deck up.  Hope to do some sewing after dinner and washing clothes.
