Day 144 - Camping

Today we visited a quilt shop in Sparta, Wisconsin.  Micaela found some Disney Peter Pan fabrics there.

This is their sample quilt using the Peter Pan fabrics.

Another black and white quilt that caught Micaela's eye.

We also took a Hiking Club hike in the morning...

And in Sparta visited the F.A.S.T mold yard....
this was some weird, wild stuff....

Our camp with Micaela's tent set up-

It was a great vacation day and we ended with our dinner over a fire under the stars.

Day 143 - Great River Bluffs State Park

Well, we are on a little vacation!  A state park near La Crosse , WI. No electricity and only 2 other campsites occupied.  I brought along that little mini quilt and started some hand quilting on it.

Our daughter joined us late in the day and will be with us for one night and one day of camping.
The awning over the kitchen is a new addition for us!

Day 142 - Camping pillowcases

I made the 2 new camping pillowcases this morning and got them in the trailer without Michael seeing them.  He was surprized when we brought out the camping quilt and they were there already!  He liked them.

Here is a photo of the completed camping quilt.
This is what the quilt looks like covering our feather bed in the trailer.

Both the quilt and the pillows- all done!

Day 141 - Planning

It has taken me forever to find leftover pieces of handwoven fabrics to make our 2 camping pillow cases out of.  Most of my pieces are too small.  I need them to make into 20 x 29 when finished.  Ok, so I finally found 3 fabrics that will work!  Guess I will have to get them sewn up tomorrow.

Here is a corner of the pillow cases I made originally for the trailer.  I know it is bright and cheery!  I thought that we needed something of interest for the interior of the trailer as it was quite plain when we moved in.  I think that Michael will like the new pillow cases better....(but he was a good sport about these.)

Day 140 - IT IS FINISHED!!!

Yup! The camping quilt is finished.  I will take some full size photos tomorrow as I need someone to hold up the quilt.  I made the label tonight.  I used some cool fabic I bought a while ago.

Here is the label:

Pete is as happy with the quilt as I am.

Day 139 - Camping quilt

Finished sewing the binding onto the quilt tonight.  Just have to somehow tack down the center embroidered block and then get a label.  I can taste the ending!

My daughter gave me this miniature wood door for mother's day.  She had painted it and tonight I put a coat of poly on it as I was hoping to find a spot by the front door of the house to put it.
We shall see... Isn't it charming?

Day 138 - Craft night

Got together with my dear friends for our monthly craft night.  It was about 11:30 when we broke up and my camera battery was on its last leg so the photos leave a lot to be desired....

Verna worked on making graduation cards:

Carol made two lovely memory wire bracelets:

I worked on hand sewing the binding on the camping quilt.
(Lois was feeling a bit under the weather so she visited with us.)

Day 137 - The love that binds....

Well, in my excitement to move to this step I forgot the "measure twice, cut once" rule.  I cut strips 1 1/4" wide and began sewing them onto the quilt. Got to the first corner and didn't have my "visual" instuctions for making a mitered corner, kept sewing and then realized that I should have had my binding twice the size to double it over and I had sewn the corner onto itself.  Out came the seam ripper.  Then my beloved brother- in-law's infamous saying came to mind: "If it's good enough to do once, it's good enough to do twice."  Recut 2" binding and found the instructions online for the mitered corner.  So much for being an "experienced" quilter...

End of the evening-
I have pinned the backside of the binding so I can begin to hand sew it tomorrow at my craft group.

Day 136 - Camping Quilt

Well today was a lovely day and for part of it I worked on tying the camping quilt.  I moved to the diningroom table to be able to spread out a bit and be out of the way in the basement in case any activity happened down there.

I did finish the tying and then put a running stitch around the center embroidered square.  I still have to figure out a way to secure that square a bit more but for today the quilt is tied!  Folded it up to wait for a binding and look who found it right away!

And another section of ceiling was installed in the basement today!!

Day 135 - Many things worked on today

Worked on a variety of items today as it is Saturday.  Started the morning with tying some more on the camping quilt.

Then a bit of the afternoon working on a miniature quilt top that is about 8 1/2 x 11".

Then a second sewing on about 40 miniature 4 square blocks that are off white and 30's prints.

And we complete the crafting day with more of the basement ceiling being installed!!!
And that was the topper of a good day.

Day 132 - Misc. Sewing Again

Well, more work has been done on the basement ceiling tonight and I believe that it is 1/3 complete!  Here are a couple of photos.
And one more photo looking the other direction:

I sewed another bunch of those little tiny fabric squares while the ceiling was being worked on tonight:

Look what I found and was able to get all 3 items for 40 or 50% off!  Looks like the makings of another lovely quilt one day!

Day 131 - Many things....

It was a rainy day and I awoke to it at 4:21 a.m. this morning.  It ended up raining steadily all day which made it perfect for me- a die- hard rain lover! Only missing the lightening and thunder...

First thing this morning I laid out the camping quilt and got it pinned.  Pete spent my "pinning" time in the bedroom hallway as she becomes destructive when I have laid a quilt on the floor to pin...
Here is the beginning of the pinning...

and the end of the pinning....

Tonight after work I took out this jar of tiny squares....

and spent some time sewing them into "twos".

Michael got another section of basement ceiling up tonight- the one that is over the computer!!!

It was a good day.

Day 129 - CAMPING QUILT TOP DONE!

Well, the top is finished!!  I will try and get a better photo but this will do for now!  Next backing, batting and pinning.... Good way to finish a great Mother's Day!

Day 128 - Tiny squares done!

Finished the sewing of the 2 inch squares today.  I added 6 rows on the side and it ended up a better shape.  I think I will add a 2 inch border of something but not now.  I am on to the camping quilt.  This will more than likely go to missions next spring at church.  Glad it is done!
